Smith Island is going into 2018 with new and exciting things happening in the community. In 2017, telemedicine came to Ewell and Tylerton, making healthcare more accessible for residents in all three communities. In 2016, the State of Maryland added Smith Island to its list of Sustainable Communities, Smith Island United became a non-profit with 501(3)c status, and real estate sales took off. The inventory of available properties is now extremely limited. There are a number of places available for sale, with only a few of them listed actively in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). So if you have a real interest in having your own place on Smith Island, please call me for the latest in what is available.
If you have never been to Smith Island, you should plan a visit. Take a day trip and spend a couple of hours looking around and talking to the people here. If you are intrigued, book a vacation rental and stay overnight or a few days to get a better feel for the community. Each of our three communities is distinctly different in their location, with Tylerton being removed from Ewell and Rhodes Point by water (meaning yes, another boat ride to visit between the communities). You may wish to book a B&B for your first visit to the island, as there are several available and they each offer a unique experience. We also have several vacation rental homes on the island, and each (again) offers its own experience.
Whether you are looking for a vacation home or a full-time residence, Bed & Breakfast, or investment property, come explore Smith Island. Some people who fell in love with Smith Island have vacation homes and spend what time they can here. Others came to Smith Island and find it impossible to leave. We came here to reap the benefits of a small school environment for our child, and what we found was so much more than that. When asked what we "newcomers" find that keep us here, the most frequent response I hear is "it's the people."
The featured listings tab shows those properties listed with me through Wilson Realty. There are a few others for sale on Smith Island, so please use other property search sites and search zip codes 21824 for Ewell and Rhodes Point and 21866 for Tylerton to provide additional information on properties for sale on Smith Island. And if seriously interested, call me to learn of others not in the MLS.
This is a place you can get away from the hectic pace of mainland life and enjoy as much or as little activity as you wish. Smith Island is a waterman's community. Whether you enjoy the tranquility and gentle sounds of the marshland or the hum of a workboat motor, Smith Island is a place like no other I've found. I lived in eight countries on five different continents before settling down in Ewell on Smith Island. It is a very special place for anyone who enjoys the beauty of nature and loves the Chesapeake Bay.
As Wilson Realty's representative for Smith Island, I look forward to helping you buy or sell homes in Ewell, Rhodes Point and Tylerton.
A day trip gives you about two and a half hours to explore, enough time to see the largest community of Ewell. To see all three villages on Smith Island, you should plan to stay overnight. If you are thinking of purchasing an island property, then please book a vacation rental to give you the opportunity to explore Smith Island. Check out the page "Visit, Places to Stay" for a link to a listing of home rentals and Bed & Breakfast listings for all three communities. Or contact me for additional information on house rentals.
Some homes are sold before they are ever advertised, so don't hesitate to be in touch about the kind of property you desire and I will help you find just that.
